During my trip me and my fam took the time to emerge ourselves in the history, culture and arts of Senegal.
I met this amazing creative Seusreuk Diaby, a hip hop lecturer and producer who showed us around and let us play around in his studio at Def Tchill Records. He let my mummy spit a verse on the mic lol. His gifted us all with his merch. I wore the Def Tchill hoodie that can be seen at the end of the video when I arrived back at JFK airport. I had to represent.
But I have to say trips like this help to revive me when I’m working on writing my stories or poetry, analyzing for characters in my acting process, or when advocating because then nothing is produced based off of assumptions.
Traveling experiences also help me to free my mind when I feel stuck. Whether I take a trip to another country or a trip to a neighborhood other than my own it boosts my creative energy to create. I highly suggest getting out and about to new places, anywhere and meet new faces to have experiences that help you to create with something of substance.
